Jamie Overton returns home after sustaining right thigh injury

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered another injury blow, with English all-rounder Jamie Overton returning home after sustaining a right thigh injury. The franchise confirmed the development on social media on Wednesday, two days before their fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow.

Overton will return to the UK for "further assessment and management," though CSK have not officially ruled him out of the remainder of IPL 2026.

Overton won Player of the Match in CSK's last home game against LSG, taking three wickets after the visitors reached 91/1 in the Powerplay. His efforts helped CSK restrict LSG to 203 before chasing it down in the final over.

He has played 10 games this season, taking 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89, while scoring 136 runs at a strike-rate of 158.13.

CSK's campaign has been injury-ridden despite turning around three consecutive defeats at the start. The five-time champions recently signed Karnataka's Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh.

Without a like-for-like all-rounder as backup, CSK may reshuffle their overseas combination, potentially bringing Australian quick Spencer Johnson into the equation. Additionally, MS Dhoni has yet to feature this season and did not travel to Lucknow for the May 15 fixture.

CSK are fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 games, with their playoffs fate still in their hands.
