Bangladesh Cricket Board replaced injured Shadman Islam with fellow opener Zakir Hasan for the second Test against Pakistan, scheduled in Sylhet from May 16. Shadman suffered a chest injury and has been ruled out.
"Shadman took a blow in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a traumatic contusion of the chest and is in pain. He will not be available for the second Test unfortunately," national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
Shadman has been replaced by fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan. The 28-year-old last played a Test in November 2024.
The inclusion of Zakir came as a surprise considering Bangladesh had earlier included in-form white-ball opener Tanzid Tamim, with the left-hander certain to make his debut.
However, sources confirmed on Thursday that opener Mahmudul Hasan is also carrying some fitness concerns, prompting the team management to include Zakir.
"Naturally Tanzid Tamim will be ahead of Zakir to make his place in the playing XI but our other opener is also having some (fitness) concern so we picked Zakir as his back-up," a selection panel member said.
