Bangladesh Cricket Board elections to be held on June 7
The Bangladesh Cricket Board's next election is scheduled for June 7, the Election Commission announced on Saturday (May 16). The announcement followed the closure of councillor nominations at 5 pm on May 16.
Former national captain Tamim Iqbal is serving as interim head after the National Sports Council dissolved the Aminul Islam-led body over misuse of power. The interim administration must conduct the BCB election within 30 days.
On April 4, the BCB approved a three-member Election Commission. The draft voters' list will be published on May 17 at the board office in Mirpur. Objections can be submitted on May 18, with hearings on May 19, and the final list published the same day.
Candidates can collect nomination papers on May 20-21 for a non-refundable fee of Tk 20,000. Completed papers must be submitted on May 21-22.
Postal ballot system in place
Councillors must apply via email (bcbec2026@gmail.com) by midnight BST on May 25. Postal and e-ballots will be sent between June 1-6. Completed ballots must reach the BCB office by 1 pm on June 7.
Voting occurs from 10 am to 4 pm on June 7 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Results will be announced at 6 pm.
The Election Commission comprises Ahsanul Karim (Chief Election Commissioner), Md. Israil Hawlader, and A.B.M. Ehsanul Mamun.
The Commission will oversee the election of 25 directors from 192 councillors across three categories: 12 directors from Dhaka club councillors, 10 from regional and district councillors, one from other organisations, and two nominated by the National Sports Council.
The 25 directors will elect the next BCB president. Interim chief Tamim Iqbal is understood to be keen on taking the role permanently.
