Knee injury rules Jane Maguire out of T20 World Cup
Off-spinner Aimee Maguire has been included in Ireland's 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England. While Aimee has recovered from an injury, her sister, medium pacer Jane Maguire, has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained in the Cricket Ireland Women's Super T20 Series.
Gaby Lewis will lead Ireland in their fifth Women's T20 World Cup appearance. This is Lewis' first leadership role in a major global event, having taken over as captain from Laura Delany in 2024. Lewis will sit out the tri-series involving West Indies and Pakistan due to an injury picked up during her stint with Lancashire at the ECB Women's One-Day Cup.
In Lewis' absence, vice-captain Orla Prendergast will lead the side for the tri-series starting May 28 in Clontarf. Lewis confirmed she will be available for the World Cup.
Ireland are in Group 2 alongside hosts England, reigning champions New Zealand, Scotland, Sri Lanka and West Indies. They open against Scotland in Manchester on June 13.
Ireland squad: Gaby Lewis (c), Orla Prendergast (vc), Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Alana Dalzell, Laura Delany, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Louise Little, Aimee Maguire, Lara McBride, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Rebecca Stokell
