He doesn't give a damn about the bowler – Jurel on Sooryavanshi's approach
Sunrisers Hyderabad saw their campaign end after being blown away by a Vaibhav Sooryavanshi special in the IPL Eliminator. The 15-year-old's 29-ball 97 set up the game during a devastating Powerplay onslaught.
Dhruv Jurel explained Sooryavanshi's mindset: "The best thing about Vaibhav is that he doesn't plan anything. He practices a lot and always backs himself. He doesn't have a shadow of doubt."
"The best thing is he watches the ball, not the bowler. His mantra is 'I don't give a damn about any bowler'."
SRH assistant coach James Franklin admitted they couldn't contain him: "There was a very, very small margin where you could bowl to him. We tried bowling full, inside leg stump to get under his swing, but he worked that out."
Despite the shellacking, Franklin felt his bowlers did well to restrict RR in the closing stages, saying RR looked set for 270-280 at one point.
"I don't think anyone's ever seen a talent like this. It's freakish what he's doing at the moment," Franklin said. "To think he's potentially got 25 years left in his career is quite scary."
Franklin noted that today's young players "don't have a lot of fear of the game" having grown up watching T20, and that the IPL "is really a step above in terms of pace of the game to most other T20 leagues."
