West Indies include Ebony Brathwaite, Ashmini Munisar for Women's T20 World Cup
Ebony Brathwaite and Ashmini Munisar have been retained in the 15-player squad for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, announced by Cricket West Indies on Thursday.
The squad is led by Hayley Matthews, with Chinelle Henry as vice-captain. The board emphasized assembling a group capable of maintaining aggressive scoring rates, adapting to seam and spin, and executing under pressure in conditions across England and Wales.
Squad: Hayley Matthews (c), Chinelle Henry (vc), Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Jannillea Glasgow, Shawnisha Hector, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack, Stafanie Taylor
Head coach Shane Deitz said: "Strong powerplay batting and sustained scoring through the middle overs will be critical. When we score beyond 45 runs in the powerplay, we control matches. We need to restrict boundaries with the ball."
"We selected players with flexibility at the top, capable of handling pace and spin, and batters who maintain intent regardless of wickets lost. We wanted bowlers who can attack and shift into defensive modes under pressure."
Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe added: "Preparation in Wales immersed players in conditions similar to the World Cup, allowing them to fine-tune technical execution and tactical awareness. We also built cohesion and consistency over an extended period."
West Indies, in Group B, begin their campaign against New Zealand in Southampton on June 13. Other group matches: Scotland (Leeds, June 18), Sri Lanka (Bristol, June 21), England (Lord's, June 24), Ireland (Bristol, June 27). Warm-up matches against India and Australia precede the tournament.
