Bangladesh women stunned again, this time by Netherlands

Bangladesh's woes continued ahead of the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 as they lost to Netherlands by 8 runs in Edinburgh. This followed a defeat to hosts Scotland by 8 wickets the previous day. Both Scotland and Netherlands recorded their first-ever T20 victories over Bangladesh.

Netherlands innings: 162/5 in 20 overs

Heather Siegers anchored the innings with 52 off 43 balls after Netherlands were put in to bat. The openers added 57 runs before Phebe Molkenboer fell for 29. Siegers then shared a 58-run partnership with Sterre Kalis (28 off 27) to push them past 100. Captain Babette de Leede (16) and Robine Rijke (18*) provided a strong finish. Fariha Trisna took 2/26 for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh innings: 154/8 in 20 overs

Captain Nigar Sultana fought valiantly with 77 off 51 balls, but lacked support from the other end. Early wickets of Dilara Akter and Sobhana Mostary put Bangladesh on the back foot. Despite Nigar's counterattack, regular wickets stalled the chase. Needing 30 off the final two overs, Siegers returned to dismiss the Bangladesh captain and two others, sealing victory.

Key moment: Siegers' final-over heroics, taking three wickets, ended Bangladesh's hopes.

Player of the Match: Heather Siegers (52 runs and 3/39)

Brief scores: Netherlands 162/5 (Siegers 52; Trisna 2-26) beat Bangladesh 154/8 (Nigar Sultana 77; Siegers 3-39, Silver Siegers 2-24) by 8 runs
