Spinners headline India's biggest innings win
Afghanistan tour of India, 2026
India registered a record innings and 300-run victory over Afghanistan inside three days in Mullanpur, riding on Manav Suthar's six-fer in the first innings on Test debut and a combined seven wickets from the spinners in the second innings.
Resuming on the overnight score of 113/5, trailing by 451, Afghanistan succumbed to 152 in their first innings. Rahmat Shah offered brief resistance with 60, but once he fell as Suthar's fifth victim, Afghanistan collapsed quickly.
India enforced the follow-on. Afghanistan began the second innings brightly, with openers putting on a 42-run stand. Abdul Malik made a patient 8 off 40, while Sediqullah Atal provided the runs. Atal then combined with Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a 32-run partnership, with Gurbaz attacking at a run-a-ball 24.
Once Kuldeep Yadav broke this partnership, Afghanistan imploded. Atal fell for 42, and Rahmat Shah was the only other batter to reach double digits. Washington Sundar ran through the middle-order with 4 for 36 while Kuldeep bagged 3 for 30 as the visitors folded for 112.
Brief scores: India 564/8 decl (Shubman Gill 126, KL Rahul 100; Mohammad Saleem Safi 6-140) beat Afghanistan 152 (Rahmat Shah 60; Manav Suthar 6-33) & 112 (Sediqullah Atal 42; Washington Sundar 4-36, Kuldeep Yadav 3-30) by an innings and 300 runs.
