Halambage was after Sooryavanshi from first game

More details have emerged about Monday's altercation involving Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sri Lanka A players, particularly Vishen Halambage. Some senior Sri Lankan cricketers have reached out to the Indian prodigy and expressed regret over the incident.

These senior players are not members of the Sri Lanka A side involved in the tri-series, but cricketers who know Sooryavanshi through their interactions in the IPL.

Cricbuzz had reported that some Sri Lanka A team members felt the Sri Lankan camp should apologise to the Indian side. It remains unclear if such an apology has been made, but many within the Sri Lankan setup were unhappy with how events unfolded after the match in Dambulla.

The altercation and whether to apologise were discussed in the Sri Lankan dressing room after Monday's match.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that Halambage had been trying to needle Sooryavanshi since the first game, which India won in a close finish on June 9. Halambage repeatedly sledged the Indian opener during that match and continued in the second game on Monday morning when India batted.

He continued the verbal assault when Sooryavanshi walked out to open in the controversial Super Over. Among other remarks, Halambage is understood to have told the Indian batter, "Go home, this is not the IPL," or words to that effect.

After the Super Over ended, Halambage allegedly charged towards Sooryavanshi and also advanced at Suryansh Shedge, the other Indian opener. Sooryavanshi retaliated before Niroshan Dickwella stepped in to defuse the situation.
