Matheesha Pathirana undergoes surgery on left hamstring
Matheesha Pathirana underwent surgery for his injured left hamstring in France, his manager confirmed via Instagram on Tuesday.
"This journey was made possible with the outstanding support of Sri Lanka Cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders and we are truly grateful for their commitment to his wellbeing."
Pathirana arrived late to IPL 2026 after an earlier calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. After obtaining a NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket and passing fitness tests for KKR — who bought him for INR 18 crore — he returned late in the season.
He played one game for KKR, against Gujarat Titans on May 16, and injured his hamstring after bowling just eight legal deliveries, ruling him out for the remainder of the tournament. He was replaced by uncapped Karnataka wicketkeeper Luvnith Sisodia ahead of KKR's final league match against Delhi Capitals.
He underwent open surgical repair for his left biceps femoris hamstring in France.
Due to the surgery, Pathirana was not considered for Sri Lanka's upcoming multi-format tour of the West Indies.
