Fleming to continue at CSK despite clamour for removal

Cricbuzz understands Stephen Fleming will continue as head coach of Chennai Super Kings, despite speculation around the coaching setup following a disappointing season.

The former New Zealand captain has been associated with CSK since their inaugural season in 2008 and has served as head coach since 2009. He retains the confidence of the franchise.

There has been some clamour for change among sections of the CSK fanbase, with "Sack Fleming" campaigns surfacing on social media. However, the franchise is not expected to alter its course.

The team finished 10th in 2025 and eighth in the just-concluded season. Yet, the CSK management is set to continue with Fleming, whose contract is renewed annually and will be extended once again.

Fleming is currently in the United States overseeing Chennai Super Kings' American subsidiary, Texas Super Kings, in Major League Cricket (MLC).

The franchise will conduct a review of its season after the MLC season ends. A debate on Fleming's contract will not be part of that review.

The development reaffirms MS Dhoni's enduring influence on CSK affairs. Dhoni shares a close professional relationship with Fleming.

Meanwhile, the franchise has received a few trade enquiries, but an approach for Hardik Pandya is not among them. Speculation about a swap involving Khaleel Ahmed and David Miller has been categorically denied by both CSK and Delhi Capitals.

CSK's current position is that it will not spare any player for trade, though trade situations in the IPL have a way of evolving.
