James Coles receives maiden England call-up for India T20Is

England have named a 17-man squad for the upcoming T20I series against India, with uncapped all-rounder James Coles receiving his maiden call-up. The Sussex all-rounder, who bats right-handed and bowls left-arm spin, is the only uncapped player in the squad.

Harry Brook will continue as captain, leading a squad that features several familiar faces. Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood have been recalled after missing out on selection for England's 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign. Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton were unavailable due to injuries.

In 61 T20 innings, the 21-year-old Coles has scored 1,373 runs at an average of 28.60 with a strike rate of 146.37, and seven half-centuries. He has also taken 53 wickets at an average of 26.94 with an economy of 8.27, including three four-wicket hauls.

England Men's National Selector Marcus North said Coles had thoroughly earned his place. "James Coles is an exciting addition and has earned his place following his performances with the England Lions and in T20 competitions here and abroad during the past 12 months."

The selectors have opted for a larger-than-usual squad due to scheduling challenges. "We have selected a larger squad to accommodate for the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand is due to conclude," North added.

The T20I series begins on July 1 in Chester-le-Street, with only a two-day gap from the scheduled end of the third Test at Trent Bridge. Manchester will host the second T20I on July 4, followed by the third game at Trent Bridge on July 7. The last two T20Is will be played in Bristol and Southampton on July 9 and 11 respectively, followed by England's three-match ODI series against India.
