BCB Hopeful of Hosting India Despite Earlier Uncertainty
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said Wednesday they are confident of hosting the white-ball series against India, scheduled for August-September 2026.
Cricbuzz had reported on July 1 that the BCB put the television and digital media rights for the series up for sale.
BCB earlier announced they will host India for a three-match ODI and T20I series in August-September 2026.
The BCB's decision to invite Expressions of Interest (EOI) for its 2026 and 2027 home internationals, with specific mention of India's 2026 tour, suggests doubts are fading.
"We are confident about hosting India as per schedule. Everyone is well aware about the benefits of playing a white ball series against a top side like India and the signs are positive," Asif Rabbani, BCB media committee chairman told Cricbuzz.
When contacted, BCCI officials remained non-committal regarding the tour.
According to the itinerary, the Indian team is scheduled to arrive on August 28 with ODI games on September 1, 3 and 6, and T20Is on September 9, 12 and 13.
The tour was postponed due to diplomatic tension between the two countries following the student movement in July 2024 that ousted the previous Awami League government. The Yunus-led government did not allow Bangladesh to play in the last ICC T20 World Cup citing security reasons, though many suggest the move was political.
After the recent general election saw the Bangladesh Nationalist Party form the government, all eyes are on them to resolve issues with India.
Aminul Haque, State Minister for Youth and Sports, publicly stated the government hopes to mend ties with their Asian neighbour.
BCB can also take confidence from India resuming tourist visas for Bangladeshi nationals from June 28 after a two-year gap.
