Fisher earns maiden ODI call-up as Duffy returns for West Indies series

Matt Fisher has earned his maiden ODI call-up in New Zealand's 16-member squad for the five-match series against the West Indies, while Jacob Duffy returns to the national setup after missing the recent Test tour of England.

The ODI series begins in Guyana on July 11, with the opening three matches scheduled for July 11, 13 and 16 before the teams move to Barbados for the final two fixtures on July 19 and 21.

Fisher, the 26-year-old Northern Districts fast bowler, received his first opportunity in the 50-over format after previously making his Test debut against Zimbabwe in August 2025 and his T20I debut against Bangladesh earlier this year. He has picked up 43 wickets in 25 List A matches at an average of 26.

Duffy returns to international cricket for the first time since the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final in March. He played for champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL immediately after but missed the England Tests following the birth of his first child. He joins Fisher, Kristian Clarke, Ben Sears and Nathan Smith in the pace attack.

"It's great to have Jacob and Matt joining the group and I know they'll bring a lot of energy and excitement," head coach Rob Walter said. "It's a nice opportunity to introduce Matt to the ODI group for the first time. He bowls with good pace and has been working hard on his variations to ensure he can bowl at different stages of the innings.

"Jacob has been a stand-out for us in all formats for the past couple of years. His skills and experience will be a great addition to our squad and I know he's looking forward to representing New Zealand again."

Mitchell Santner will lead the side, with Michael Bracewell, Jayden Lennox and Dean Foxcroft providing the spin options. Lennox, who made his international debut against India in January, has been included for his third overseas white-ball tour. Bracewell and Mark Chapman also return to the ODI squad after missing New Zealand's recent assignments.

Several frontline players will be unavailable for the series. Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke have been rested following a heavy workload during the first half of the year, while Blair Tickner is set to undergo ankle surgery. Devon Conway will miss the tour following the birth of his second child during the England Test series, while Rachin Ravindra was unavailable after a prior agreement with New Zealand Cricket to participate in Major League Cricket.

New Zealand ODI squad: Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Mitch Hay, Nick Kelly, Tom Latham (wk), Jayden Lennox, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Ben Sears, Nathan Smith, Will Young
