Courtney Walsh appointed bowling coach of Zimbabwe

Former West Indian great Courtney Walsh has been appointed the bowling coach of the Zimbabwean men's team. The decision was made following a Zimbabwe Cricket board meeting on June 23, with the association confirming the appointment on Wednesday (July 1).

Walsh was a consultant for the Zimbabwean team at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka earlier this year and has now been roped in on a permanent basis. Zimbabwe famously beat Australia and Sri Lanka to top their group and proceed to the Super Eights, also securing a berth for the 2028 edition in the process.

Zimbabwe Cricket has opted to retain the core of its coaching staff helmed by Head Coach Justin Sammons. Dion Ebrahim will continue to serve as the Assistant Coach (Batting) while Stuart Matsikenyeri will continue as the Fielding & Lower-Order Batting Coach. Former all-rounder Chamu Chibhabha, the manager of the Zimbabwe 'A' and Eagles setups, will serve as an understudy to senior team manager Dilip Chouhan as part of ZC's succession plan initiative.

Elsewhere, Elton Chigumbura has also been retained in his capacity as head coach of the Zimbabwe U19 men's team.

Zimbabwe are currently hosting Bangladesh for an all-format series. They registered their biggest ever win in Tests in the one-off game in Harare by an innings and 85 runs on Tuesday, which marked their first match under new skipper Richard Ngarava.
