England name Coles, Archer in ODI squad for India series
England have handed a maiden ODI call-up to Sussex allrounder James Coles in a 16-man squad for this month's three-match home series against India. Fast bowlers Josh Tongue, who's uncapped in ODIs, and Jofra Archer, who last played the format in November last year, have also been included.
Pacers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood return after missing the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Harry Brook, who is in contention to succeed Ben Stokes as Test captain, will continue to lead the ODI side as their full-time white-ball captain.
England ODI squad: Harry Brook (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, James Coles, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Josh Tongue.
Compared to the 15-man squad that toured Sri Lanka in January-February, England have made four changes. Archer, Atkinson, Mahmood and Coles come in, replacing Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood. The rest of the core remains unchanged as England build towards next year's World Cup in South Africa.
The three-match series begins at Edgbaston on July 14, before moving to Cardiff (July 16) and concluding at Lord's (July 19).
