Samson omission part of 2028 T20 World Cup roadmap
The non-selection of Sanju Samson for the Zimbabwe series has stirred debate, but sources indicate it's part of a broader strategy. The BCCI and selectors have begun planning for the 2028 T20 World Cup, with Prabhsimran Singh picked ahead of Samson for the Zimbabwe tour as part of that roadmap.
A source close to the planning confirmed Samson has been explained the reasoning behind the decision. He remains in India's squad for the Asian Games, and his omission is temporary.
Other notable absentees include Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, and Prasidh Krishna, as selectors test a wider player pool.
Samson apparently volunteered to sit out the Manchester T20I to accommodate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, indicating he retains management's confidence.
KL Rahul, with superior numbers (593 runs at 174.41 strike rate) compared to Prabhsimran's 510 at 168.87, might feel more aggrieved.
