Archer, Tongue Obliterate India for 76 in 125-Run Rout
India's batters capitulated in alarming fashion, crashing to a lowly total of 76 in the 3rd T20I at Trent Bridge. Josh Tongue and Jofra Archer bowled with pace and hit the deck, powering England to a massive 125-run win and a 2-0 series lead.
Chasing 202, India's innings began with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi slashing Archer over third man for six. Abhishek Sharma also struck a six off Tongue, but once Tongue hit the deck, Abhishek perished. Archer then broke the game open with a short ball that Sooryavanshi gloved to the keeper.
Ishan Kishan picked out deep backward square leg, before Shreyas Iyer holed out to the same fielder. Axar Patel counter-attacked briefly, but Archer dismissed him with extra bounce. India lost half their side by the end of the fifth over.
Harry Brook's captaincy worked like a charm. He deployed Will Jacks and Adil Rashid to tie down Harshit Rana and Tilak Varma. Tilak, who laboured to 3 off 11, was stumped off Jacks. Brook then reintroduced Tongue to remove Shivam Dube, ending any hope.
The rest swung and perished. Tongue finished with four wickets, Rashid took two. England needed just four bowlers as India's innings lasted 11.4 overs.
Earlier, England were kept quiet early after being asked to bat first. Arshdeep Singh began with a maiden. Buttler broke the shackles with boundaries off Arshdeep, then hit Axar for a six and a four. Prince Yadav cleaned up Buttler for 36 with a yorker first ball.
Phil Salt struggled early, batting on 17 off 19 before smashing a Chakaravarthy half-tracker for six. He raised a half-century as England set the launchpad for a flamboyant finish. Axar dismissed Salt but then went for runs to Will Jacks. Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 41 as England passed 200.
Brief Scores: England 201/7 in 20 overs (Phil Salt 70, Sam Curran 41*; Prince Yadav 2-30, Harshit Rana 2-40) beat India 76 in 11.4 overs (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 13; Josh Tongue 4-28, Jofra Archer 3-29, Adil Rashid 2-14) by 125 runs
