Beating No.1 ranked team fantastic achievement: Harry Brook

England, ranked seventh in the ICC ODI rankings, beat top-ranked India to clinch the series at Lord's.

"I thought we fought hard and communicated really well. To come away with a series win against the world No. 1 team is a fantastic achievement," said England captain Harry Brook.

England's 387 was built on a 192-run opening partnership between Jacob Bethell and Ben Duckett. "The way Beth and Ducky started was phenomenal. To be none down after 20 or 30 overs without taking many risks was outstanding. Then Rooty did what Rooty does, and Jos finished the innings. It was a very good all-round batting performance," Brook said.

India's chase was led by Rohit Sharma's ton but lost steam with Bethell and Sam Curran bowling tight spells. "I came off for an over and had a chat with Baz. We decided to stick with Jacob, who ended up bowling seven or eight overs straight through. That was a vital part of the game. Everyone stuck to the plan well," said Brook.

Joe Root, Player of the Series (scores of 99*, 76* and 74*), said: "To beat the number one team and bounce back after the first game is rewarding. It shows we're going in the right direction with the World Cup further down the line."

India captain Shubman Gill said: "We were in the game until the 40th over but gave too many runs in the last three overs – around 60 runs. That's where the game went too far ahead. We didn't bowl well, especially after the Powerplay. They bowled too many off-side deliveries. The openers capitalised tremendously."

Gill added on Rohit's 140: "The wicket got a bit slow in the end but the way he batted was a treat to watch."
