Marnus Labuschagne dropped from Australia’s ODI squads

Marnus Labuschagne has been omitted from the Australian ODI squads for the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa after a prolonged slump in form.

  • Recent performances: 24 runs in three ODIs in Pakistan, only one fifty in three ODIs against Bangladesh, and limited impact in the recent two‑Test series against the same side.
  • Selection context: With Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head returning, selectors opted for younger talent.

Potential replacements

  • All‑rounder Joel Davies – impressive T20I debut vs Bangladesh (3/17); now in line for an ODI debut.
  • Left‑hander Ollie Peake – retained after his ODI debut against Pakistan in May.

Other squad notes

  • Josh Hazlewood returns for both tours.
  • Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will join for the South African leg, ahead of the three‑match Test series.
  • Mitchell Marsh will captain the side in Zimbabwe; Cummins will link up for South Africa.

“This six‑game series is an important lead‑in to next year’s World Cup, being played in the same countries. It’s great to have Marsh, Travis and Josh back, then Pat and Mitch for the SA leg, giving us a core of players mixed with emerging talent.” – George Bailey, Chair of Selectors
