Nahid Rana to miss Asian Games, eyes Afghanistan series comeback
Bangladesh Cricket Board officials announced on Monday (31 August) that pace bowler Nahid Rana will not be considered for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan this September.
Rana missed the recent two‑match Test series against Australia due to a side‑strain injury suffered on the Zimbabwe tour. After a six‑week break, he returned to bowl in the nets at the BCB Academy on Monday.
BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar told Cricbuzz that the board is not willing to take any risk with Rana’s rehabilitation, confirming he will sit out the Asian Games. However, the board expects him to be fit for the Afghanistan series in October, though it remains unclear whether he will feature in the Test or ODI format.
“We are not considering Nahid Rana for the Asian Games owing to his rehabilitation process,” Bashar said. “He will return with the Afghanistan series. It remains to be seen whether he will play Test or ODI. But it is 100 % confirmed that he will not play in the Asian Games.”
