MCA to create Rs 500‑crore corpus for grassroots cricket

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced a Rs 500 crore corpus dedicated to developing grassroots cricket in Mumbai. The fund will be built over the next ten years and will support school, college and maidan clubs across the city.

  • Funding plan:

    • Existing corpus: Rs 100 crore.
    • New contribution: Rs 40 crore per year for ten years, bringing the total to Rs 500 crore.
    • The corpus will be kept as a fixed‑deposit endowment; only the interest earned will be used for kits, facilities, logistics and equipment, distributed among affiliated clubs as needed.
  • Additional initiatives:

    • Three lounges at the Wankhede Stadium will be named after Sachin Tendulkar, Madhav Mantri and Ajinkya Rahane.
    • A statue of Dilip Vengsarkar is being installed inside the Wankhede complex.
  • Governance stance:

    • Regarding the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, MCA said it will follow the BCCI’s position and has not taken an independent stance.
