Maaz Sadaqat’s 112 Blows Barbados Tridents Away

Maaz Sadaqat became the youngest centurion in CPL history at age 21, smashing 112 as the Jamaica Kingsmen defeated the Barbados Tridents in the Eliminator at the Kensington Oval. Sadaqat’s dominant performance secured a nine-wicket victory for the Kingsmen, earning them a spot in Qualifier 2 of CPL 2026.

Sadaqat opened with a six but took a blow to the glove; he responded with a boundary. After Rivaldo Clarke dropped him on 16, Sadaqat unleashed a fierce onslaught, utilizing his full range of strokes—including a reverse-sweep and a one-handed six—before hitting a hat-trick of maximums off AM Ghazanfar to reach his fifty. Quinton de Kock, who briefly took the gloves from Clarke, missed a stumping chance when Gudakesh Motie fired one down the leg-side. The Kingsmen piled up 79 runs in the Powerplay, with 65 coming from Sadaqat’s bat.

Kirk McKenzie (22* off 34) was kept quiet at the other end, but Sadaqat’s pyrotechnics kept the Tridents at bay. The Kingsmen raced past 100 in the tenth over, and Sadaqat raised his ton off 44 balls. Daniel Sams took Sadaqat’s wicket in the 14th over, but the Kingsmen crossed the finish line one ball into the next over.

Earlier, the Tridents were in dire straits, reduced to 30/5 in the seventh over. Hassan Khan struck in the opening over, removing Brandon King for a five-ball duck. Andre Russell then hit the deck, undoing both Kevlon Anderson and Zachary Carter. Hunain Shah removed the in-form Sadrack Descarte for a duck in the final Powerplay over, before Saim Ayub castled Sherfane Rutherford.

A remarkable recovery act followed, staged by de Kock and captain Chris Green, who shared a 114-run partnership to take the Tridents to 144. The Tridents breached the 50-run mark in the 11th over. De Kock, who started positively, was dropped by Vitel Lawes on 33 but soon raised a 34-ball fifty. Green upped the ante, with 71 runs coming off the last seven overs. Russell proved expensive in the 18th over and had to walk off clutching his back. Green brought up his maiden CPL fifty, but Hunain Shah conceded just seven runs off the last over, with the innings ending on de Kock’s run out.
