Mittansh Nithiyanandam has completed a remarkable progression in Minor League Cricket (MiLC). At 15, he required special dispensation to become the youngest player to feature in the league. At 17, he became its youngest half-centurion. On Saturday, the 20-year-old became MiLC's youngest centurion, smashing 114 off 68 deliveries against the Chicago Kingsmen.

The Origin Story
In 2021, an unknown 15-year-old Nithiyanandam played a practice match in Chicago. He hit his first two deliveries for six, catching the eye of Ashar Mehdi, then captain of the Chicago Blasters. As MiLC required players to be at least 16, the Blasters secured a formal exemption for him.

The Mumbai Gamble
Born in Mumbai but moved to the US at six months old, Nithiyanandam inherited his love for cricket from his father. After high school, he faced a lack of a year-round high-performance ecosystem in the US. In October 2024, he deferred college for a year and moved alone to Chembur, Mumbai, to train at Achievers Cricket Academy.

• The Challenge: There were no assurances that Mumbai’s competitive A Division clubs would pick him.
• The Breakthrough: He auditioned for the DY Patil club. After spending 15 games on the sidelines, he squeezed into the XI at No. 7 as a bowling allrounder.
• The Performance: Against the Cricket Club of India, he scored 41 off roughly 30 deliveries (including four sixes), securing regular opportunities.

Technical Evolution
Nithiyanandam noted that Mumbai taught him how to manipulate chases, read red-soil pitches, and develop the sweep and reverse sweep—shots not central to his game in America. While retaining his innate fearlessness, he added method to his aggression.

The Record-Breaking Innings
The 114-run innings came just one day after he was dismissed for a duck on the first ball. Determined not to let that failure alter his method, he faced a Kingsmen attack featuring Ghulam Mudassar (clocking ~90mph).
