New Zealand Recall Quartet for Australia T20I Series
New Zealand has named a 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia, marking the team's first international assignment of the 2026-27 season. The selection serves as preparation for the inaugural 2027 ICC Women's Champions Trophy in India.
Key Selections
- Eden Carson: Returns after recovering from elbow surgery (out since December). The off-spinner (51 caps) joins a spin department featuring captain Amelia Kerr, Nensi Patel, and Flora Devonshire.
- Molly Penfold & Hannah Rowe: Recalled to bolster the pace attack following the retirements of Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu.
- Bella James: Adds depth to the batting lineup following Suzie Bates's departure.
Injuries & Departures
- Izzy Gaze: Ruled out due to persistent thumb injury surgery; targeting a return in early 2027.
- Polly Inglis: Set to take over wicketkeeping duties.
- Coaching Change: Dean Brownlie, the batting coach for nearly four years, will serve as interim head coach following Ben Sawyer's departure. Additional coaching support is expected to be announced next week.
Quotes
Eden Carson:
"To be back in the White Ferns environment is really special. The rehab process has taken a lot of patience, but I've been fortunate to have great support around me and I'm feeling ready to get back out there and contribute."
Dean Brownlie (Interim Head Coach):
"We're excited to welcome back Eden, Hannah, Molly, and Bella. There’s a balance of experience and future-focus in this squad and it’s going to be a chance for the group to test themselves against a quality side. Competing against the best in the world is always going to be a challenge, but it also provides a lot of opportunities to learn and strengthen skillsets within that."
