Naveen‑ul‑Haq’s Commentary Role Not a Signal About His Playing Future – ACB
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials clarified on Thursday that all‑rounder Naveen‑ul‑Haq’s inclusion in the commentary panel for the one‑off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan (Abu Dhabi, 9 Oct) should not be read as a decision on his playing career.
- Current status: Naveen is recovering from an injury sustained after his last appearance for Afghanistan in December 2024. His rehabilitation is ongoing, and the board expects him to return to the squad once fully fit.
- ACB’s stance: CEO Naseeb Khan emphasized that Naveen remains part of Afghanistan’s player plans. The commentary assignment is simply an additional opportunity during his rehab, aimed at developing talent in non‑playing roles.
- Commentary panel: Alongside Naveen, the panel will feature Ramiz Raja, Farveez Maharoof, Andrew Leonard, Ahmad Farhad Fidai, and Mazhar Uddin Omi.
The board’s message: the commentary stint is not an indication that Naveen is moving away from playing cricket. It is a developmental initiative while he completes his recovery.
