Tournament Context

This fixture forms part of the 92nd edition of India's premier domestic first-class competition, which runs from October 11, 2026, to March 3, 2027. The tournament features 38 teams across Elite and Plate divisions, with the Elite competition comprising 32 teams split into four groups of eight.

Notable promotion story: Bihar earned promotion to the Elite League after securing the Plate League title in the 2025-26 season. They enter this campaign as newcomers to the top flight, facing the challenge of competing against established sides such as defending champions Jammu & Kashmir, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, are established Elite Group A campaigners looking to make a strong start to their title defence ambitions.

Bihar: New Leadership, Ambitious Start

Bihar have appointed Ashutosh Aman as their head coach for the 2026-27 season, with Ashok Kumar named as assistant coach. This new coaching pair replaces the previous combination of Vinayak Samant and Kumar Mridul.

Sakibul Gani has been confirmed as captain, with Himanshu Singh serving as vice-captain. This match will be the first competitive outing for both the new coach and captain in their respective roles.

The appointment comes after the Supreme Court named former Patna High Court judge Ashwani Kumar as administrator for Bihar cricket on September 16, 2026, providing the administrative framework for the selection process.
