Josh Inglis set to rejoin Australia squad ahead of Gqeberha Test

  • Josh Inglis will re‑join the Australian squad for the second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha after returning to Australia with a fractured finger.
  • He sustained the injury in the first ODI in Durban and will fly out to South Africa while continuing recovery; surgery was ruled out.
  • Cameron Green may also return from an abdominal strain, adding a selection headache.
  • Nic Maddinson was given a Test comeback as an opener, with the batting order rejigged for the series opener.

“It really turned into two players replacing Josh Inglis.
If you looked at it like that, it wasn’t just another batter coming in.
We had sort of flexibility with Josh and then Harper obviously takes the back‑up glove role and then you’ve got where we got to with Nic.”
— Andrew McDonald

  • Maddinson’s first Test since March 2025, after beating testicular cancer last September, made a 33‑ball duck in his first innings – his first Test in over a decade since the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in 2016.
