No headway in Hardik-Jaiswal trade talks

Hardik Pandya–Yashasvi Jaiswal trade stalls

• Talks between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on a possible Hardik Pandya‑Yashasvi Jaiswal swap have lost momentum.
• Both franchises are not currently engaged in any trade discussions.

Why the deal had appeal

• Rajasthan already have a young left‑handed opener, Lhuandre Pretorius (South Africa), who performed strongly in the recent MLC season (465 runs, SR > 176, 1 century, 4 fifties) and finished third on the batting chart.
• Pretorius has limited IPL exposure (3 matches) but showed form in the T20I tri‑series in Namibia (226 runs, SR 179.37) and the SA20 (188* off 79 balls for Titans).

Current status

• No confirmation that Rajasthan is pursuing Pretorius as a backup if the Jaiswal trade materialises.
• Yashasvi Jaiswal remains under contract with Rajasthan for at least one more season; the franchise did not comment on trade rumors.
• Former Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson was traded to Chennai Super Kings last year (for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran); a similar high‑profile swap appears unlikely now.

Upcoming considerations

• Franchise‑level trade talks may pick up as the Nov 15 retention deadline approaches.
• Some owners factor cultural periods such as Pitru Paksha (recently ended) into decision‑making.

Mumbai Indians update

• No discussion yet on Rohit Sharma returning as captain.
• The club is focusing on finalising its coaching staff before addressing the captaincy question.
