Multiple Deaths Reported as RCB's Victory Celebrations Turn Fatal in Bengaluru

A tragic incident occurred in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4) as multiple deaths were reported due to overcrowding and a stampede-like situation at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team was being felicitated by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, followed by a ceremony in front of fans.

The event organizers had been working with the local police to arrange facilities, but the short notice and turnaround time led to a chaotic situation. Videos showed people scaling the stadium walls, and police resorting to mild lathi charge to control the crowd.

Deputy Chief Minister Apologizes

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar apologized to the people of Karnataka for the overcrowding, confirming that six people were dead in Bowring Hospital, and four more were brought dead to Vydehi Hospital. A total of eleven deaths were eventually confirmed.

BCCI Secretary Blames Lapses in Arrangement

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the early recovery of the injured. He blamed lapses in arrangement, saying that proper precautions, safety, and security measures were not taken.

RCB's Statement

RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the affected families. The team promptly amended their program and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. They urge all supporters to stay safe.
