Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set to play DY Patil T20 tournament

Teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to play in the DY Patil T20 tournament in Mumbai. The annual competition in Navi Mumbai attracts 16 teams each year, and this season the India Under-19 World Cup-winning star is set to represent one of the DY Patil sides.

Sources close to Sooryavanshi and the tournament organizers have revealed that talks are underway, and the chances of the young prodigy featuring in the tournament are very high. The tournament starts on February 23 this year and usually sees many international players take part, coming just ahead of the IPL season.

Sooryavanshi, who smashed a record-breaking 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final against Afghanistan in South Africa, is currently in Talegaon, near Nagpur, where the Rajasthan Royals have a facility. On arrival from South Africa, the 14-year-old did not go home and instead began preparing for the IPL season.

"He is currently practicing in Talegaon, where the Rajasthan Royals camp is underway. The camp will continue until February 21, after which Sooryavanshi will proceed to Patna and then to his hometown," informed a source close to him. In his hometown, a promotional event is scheduled, where he is expected to be presented with a vehicle. After that, he may come to Mumbai for the DY Patil tournament.

The DY Patil tournament, held annually at the DY Patil Stadium, is one of the oldest T20 competitions in the country, having started in 2003. The venue has hosted the final of the Women's World Cup, some warm-up games of the ongoing World Cup, and is in line to host a few IPL matches as well.
