Samson backs India's top order, lauds Hope’s steadiness
Sanju Samson praised West Indies skipper Shai Hope for the “steadiness” of his knock, noting the West Indian’s ability to play good shots without taking undue risks.
India’s chase of 248
- Samson gave India a flying start, scoring 56 off 23 balls before being dismissed at the start of the 5th over.
- He said: “When you are chasing a score like that, you have to back your instincts and play your power game.”
Opening partnership
- Abhishek Sharma struggled, scoring 29 off 24 balls – his lowest strike‑rate in a T20I innings of 20+ balls.
- Ishan Kishan was out early as well.
- Samson defended them: “Ishan and Abhishek are the world’s best top‑two batters; one off‑day is fine.”
Middle‑order resurgence
- Tilak Varma and Nitish Reddy stitched together a 70‑run partnership after India slumped to 130/5 in the 12th over.
- Their stand kept India in the hunt until Varma’s wicket at the end of the 17th over and Reddy’s at the 19th.
Result & next match
- India were bowled out for 223, falling 24 runs short.
- The series is now tied 1‑1, with a decider in Bengaluru on Saturday, 17 Oct.
- Samson: “It all comes down to the Bangalore game now. We’re charged up and ready to compete.”
