Kerala vs Odisha: Match Preview

Ranji Trophy 2026-27 | Elite Group C | October 18-21, 2026

The Kerala vs Odisha clash forms a crucial Group C fixture in the opening phase of the 92nd edition of the Ranji Trophy, India's premier domestic first-class cricket competition. The four-day encounter will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, giving Kerala the advantage of home soil.

Tournament Context

The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy features 38 teams competing across the Elite and Plate divisions. The Elite competition comprises 32 teams split into four groups of eight, while six teams contest the Plate division. The opening phase of the Elite Division runs from October 11 to November 5, before resuming from January 17 to February 4. Knockouts begin on February 9, with the final scheduled for March 3, 2027.

This Kerala versus Odisha tie is one of four Group C matches scheduled for the October 18-21 window, alongside Services vs Bengal, Delhi vs Gujarat, and Maharashtra vs Jharkhand.

Squad Highlights

Kerala arrive as a well-balanced side led by the experienced Vishnu Vinod, who combines the dual responsibilities of captaincy and wicketkeeping. The squad boasts a strong core of domestic talent, including Rohan S Kunnummal, Abhishek J Nair, Sachin Baby, and Mohammed Azharuddeen. With three wicketkeepers in Vishnu Vinod, Azharuddeen, and Varun Nayanar, Kerala possess flexibility in their batting order and behind the stumps.

Odisha, captained by Subhranshu Senapati, field a competitive squad featuring Swastik Samal, Om T Munde, Gourav Choudhary, and Shreyansh Bhardwaj. The side has two wicketkeepers—Aashirwad Swain and Dinesh Majhi—providing depth to their lineup.

What to Expect

With both teams vying for crucial points in the opening round of Group C fixtures, this encounter promises to be an intense contest. Kerala's home advantage at the Greenfield International Stadium, combined with their balanced squad composition, positions them favorably. However, Odisha's determined setup under Subhranshu Senapati will look to spoil the hosts' plans.
