Death-bowling masterclass sees SRH trump CSK
Sunrisers Hyderabad moved into the top-four with a 10-run victory over Chennai Super Kings at home. CSK's own death-bowling performance—which restricted the hosts to 194 despite half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen—was surpassed by Hyderabad's, who recorded their second successive win. CSK failed to mount a challenge with the bat in reply, losing wickets in a heap despite being comfortably set at 111/3 at the halfway point.
| Phase | SRH | CSK | Run-rate (SRH – CSK) | 4s/6s (SRH – CSK) |

| Powerplay | 75/2 | 76/2 | 12.5 – 12.66 | 8/5 – 9/2 |

| Death Overs | 40/4 | 43/3 | 8.0 – 8.6 | 3/2 – 2/1 |
Brief scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad 194/9 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 59 off 22, Heinrich Klaasen 59 off 39; Anshul Kamboj 3-22, Jamie Overton 3-37) beat Chennai Super Kings 184/8 in 20 overs (Matthew Short 34 off 30, Ayush Mhatre 30 off 13; Eshan Malinga 3-29) by 10 runs.
Another Travishek special?
The destructive pair put on a brisk 75-run stand in 5.5 overs to lay the platform, with Abhishek Sharma leading the charge. After a slow start of 23 runs in the first half of the Powerplay, Abhishek exploded, taking Matthew Short for 4,4,4,6,6 to race to a 15-ball fifty by the end of the fifth over. Travis Head joined in with three boundaries off Mukesh Choudhary in the sixth over. Choudhary then ended the Powerplay by taking wickets off successive deliveries, dismissing Head and then SRH skipper Ishan Kishan.
Why a sub-200 score then?
Because of a middle-overs squeeze. Jamie Overton reviewed a caught-behind decision to remove Abhishek Sharma after the Powerplay and kept breaking middle-order partnerships, preventing SRH from regaining momentum. Anshul Kamboj and Gurjapneet Singh then delivered a fantastic finish at the death, conceding only 17 runs and taking 4 wickets in the last three overs to restrict SRH.
CSK's Powerplay performance matched SRH's, but they lost an extra wicket. Ayush Mhatre and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on a 51-run partnership in just 20 deliveries, but Mhatre's hamstring issue caused a momentum break. Heinrich Klaasen had dropped a tough catch earlier to reprieve Mhatre, which cost SRH 30 runs in 12 balls before the South African redeemed himself. Eshan Malinga struck first ball to dismiss the CSK skipper and balance the scales.
How did they drag it to the last over?
Through cameos around Matthew Short, who anchored the innings. He received support from Sarfaraz Khan (25 off 19) and Shivam Dube (21 off 16), but wickets fell in pairs, leaving CSK with too much to do at the backend.
Who starred with the ball for SRH?
Eshan Malinga's two crucial strikes firmly put SRH in control. CSK needed 84 in the last ten overs, but losing set batters cost them heavily. Malinga accounted for both Sarfaraz Khan and Matthew Short, finishing with 3-29 from his four overs. Despite a struggling Jamie Overton trying to keep CSK in the hunt, regular wickets in the second half proved fatal.
Where do the teams go from here?
SRH have another home game against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (April 21). CSK head to Mumbai to face MI on Thursday (April 23).
